Watch | Our first year celebration; FOIL 1.0
Last week marked a milestone for FOIL as we celebrated our first year at the historic Royal Society of Arts. The venue choice wasn't coincidental—for nearly 270 years, these walls have witnessed the evolution of human knowledge and innovation. It seemed fitting, then, that we chose to frame our discussion not around AI, but around something more fundamental: human knowledge in an increasingly connected world.
AI in Law: Navigating the Path from Hesitation to Innovation
Drawing from our close partnerships with legal firms—both boutique practices to global powerhouses—over the past year we've gained unique insights into how the legal sector is approaching AI. We've listened to challenges, understood aspirations, and witnessed both the hesitation and excitement that AI brings to the profession.
Internet Matters faced a challenge: AI systems threatened to bypass their platform and scrape content without attribution. FOIL's Talent team built Owlie, an intelligent AI assistant that transforms how the charity serves families, turning a defensive position into strategic advantage —impressing the CEO to present directly to the board.
FOIL delivered two strategic workshops for Surfers Against Sewage — a national marine conservation and activism charity that empowers communities to take action for the ocean — to confidently understand and adopt data and AI solutions. We facilitated leadership discussions on data strategy and provided practical AI training for the whole team. The result: a clearer path to becoming data-driven, tangible plans for responsible AI use, and internal capability to maximise their impact for ocean conservation.
